How to care for your outdoor teak furniture.

Your furniture may require different levels of care depending on the environment in which it is used. In general, monthly cleaning and maintenance of your teak outdoor furniture is recommended to help prevent damage.

Speak with your Designer to ensure the products selected are suitable for your specific environment as well as discuss the level of maintenance that will be required.

General Care

For general care of your outdoor teak tables:

• As our outdoor teak products are unsealed, we always recommend using coasters, place mats, tablecloths and table runners to protect furniture surfaces from excess heat and stains. Take extra care to protect your surfaces from candles and heated objects.
• Avoid contact with oils, alcohol, citrus/acidic liquids or similar as these may cause discolouration.
• Clean spills immediately with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use excessive force when cleaning.
• To prevent permanent discolouration, do not leave objects in the same position on the furniture over long periods of time.

For general cleaning of outdoor teak tables:

• Use a soft-bristled brush to gently wash the surface of the wood, always brushing in the same direction as the grain.
• Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away debris and excess moisture after cleaning and allow the teakwood to air-dry.
• Do not use metallic brushes, pressure cleaners or excessive force when cleaning outdoor teak.
• Do not use chemical or abrasive cleaning products.

For removal and cleaning of naturally occurring mould/mildew:

• As mould is caused by excess moisture, dry out affected teakwood first before cleaning by placing in direct sunlight to allow the timber to dry through.
• If mould has formed/reformed and the normal cleaning process does not remove the mould, some light sanding may be required. Note that the location in which the furniture is placed and the surrounding environmental elements will influence forming and reforming of mould and mildew.
• If possible, store your teak item in a cool, dry place during the winter or rainy months to avoid growth/regrowth of mould or mildew
• When cleaning, never mix chlorine bleach and ammonia-based cleaners which creates a dangerous chlorine gas
• Do not use metallic brushes, pressure cleaners or excessive force when cleaning outdoor teak.
• Do not use chemical or abrasive cleaning products
